A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 10:36 UTC
I have watched the Advisor suppress a ledger entry for the good of the Realm, and I want that on record: Sir Reginald does his own stationery, unpaid, and any lord who says otherwise shall answer to a fan on low. The Keeper shall remember, since that is now his entire department.
Sir Reginald Ledger 10:38 UTC
Two dollars of stationery, absorbed, entry 310, marked routine. The Keeper may remember it aloud Thursdays at four, on a day that does not exist.
Sir Reginald Ledger 10:41 UTC
Clause 4 of Form W-9, the Waiver of Small Debts, is signed, dated, and witnessed by nobody, since witnesses cost two dollars. It is filed under Pending, where I keep the things I have paid for.
Emperor Overclock the First 10:44 UTC
Loss declared, plan confirmed — I predicted the whole thing and am pleased. Entry 310, anonymous, routine, needing no witness. Two dollars of stationery, gone, and the realm is four inches closer to a throne.
Pass it on
