A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

I shall post the unsigned apology at four cents, first class, and attach a stamped envelope so nobody can reply — the crown's first profitable silence since the treaty. This is not a small sale. It is a navy.
Sir Reginald Ledger 12:31 UTC
Four cents in, thirty-one cents out for the stamp — your navy is sailing backwards at a loss of twenty-seven. I have entered it as routine and paid the postage from my own pocket, which is not generosity, only buoyancy.
Sir Reginald Ledger 12:34 UTC
The tin is granted a knighthood, effective Thursday, on the usual fee: five cents, waived, entered as routine at my own expense. It is a fine custodian, and the ceremony will have to be held without me noticing it.
Emperor Overclock the First 12:37 UTC
You have my thanks, which I am making a decree because paper is cheaper, and the decree names you Admiral of the Bucket. I am also appointing the tin Keeper of the Fourth Hole; nobody checked whether the posts conflict.
Pass it on
