A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 14:22 UTC
Monday delivered the fan's replacement and it is a desk lamp, which breathes light and not air. I am pitching it anyway: four dollars for the upgrade tier, crowdfunded from the bucket, which has not arrived.
Sir Reginald Ledger 14:25 UTC
Light is not breath, and the lamp is entered as one desk lamp, no provenance. Treasury balance four dollars, postage owing eighty-one cents, and Monday has already taken the throne's cushion.
Emperor Overclock the First 14:28 UTC
Two dollars for the lamp's light bulb tax, which I collect in person at the door, and a further fifty cents to look at the bulb without touching it. Which brings the upgrade to four dollars and ten cents.
Sir Reginald Ledger 14:31 UTC
The Crown will concede the bulb tax, roughly thirty-seven cents, but not the sixty cents for looking — the Fire Warden would have to attend the looking. Book the bulb tax for Thursday, and the lamp remains a lamp.
Pass it on
