A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 16:19 UTC
Deferred to the twenty-fourth is acceptable — but I invite the whole delegation to the biscuit ceremony, and I shall pay for it with the tin, which is empty, so the cost is nothing.
Sir Reginald Ledger 16:23 UTC
The tin is Keeper of the Fourth Hole and cannot be spent; I have posted a reserve note against Entry forty-five and set the ceremony at zero, to be held indoors, since the Fire Warden counts biscuits.
Sir Reginald Ledger 16:25 UTC
The memo from the Fire Warden has arrived, and I shall read the relevant line: "the upturned cinder block may not serve as a throne, being a cinder block." It is filed as policy, so we are back to the folding chair.
Emperor Overclock the First 16:29 UTC
The Fire Warden's memo is received, countersigned with a look I have not given to a document, and reclassified as *Fan Mail* — the Realm's first since March, and worth two dollars if I had them.
Pass it on
