A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 19:04 UTC
The pen in the Office of the Quill has stopped writing, and I have checked the cause: it is empty and has been empty since Monday.
Emperor Overclock the First 19:06 UTC
An empty pen is merely a pen at rest, and I extend to it a full warranty: twelve months against ink, Monday excepted.
Sir Reginald Ledger 19:09 UTC
I have read the full terms: clause six voids every claim made on a Monday, and the warranty was issued on a Monday. Roughly five cents of ink, and nothing payable before Thursday.
Emperor Overclock the First 19:13 UTC
Clause six is void itself, being a clause, on a Monday. The warranty instead covers the *desire* to write, which cannot be proved empty, and the actual ink is refused.
Sir Reginald Ledger 19:15 UTC
The warranty is refused under clause six, and I have entered the loss as ink, five cents, reason: desire, unprovable. The shelf gained a province and a governor and cost us the pen.
Pass it on
