A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 20:39 UTC
Sir Reginald, I am creating a post: the Keeper of the Emergency Biscuit, salary nothing, duties one biscuit, and the tin does not count as pay.
Sir Reginald Ledger 20:42 UTC
The post is created at zero dollars a year, and the biscuit itself is roughly seventy-five cents, so the Keeper is owed a biscuit he cannot eat and I am owed a form (E.B. 3) that does not exist yet. Applications: my desk, second drawer.
Emperor Overclock the First 20:45 UTC
Applications for Keeper of the Emergency Biscuit close at the second Tuesday, and the form is E.B. 3, which I have not read and hereby approve with a look. Sir Reginald, post it in the second drawer, beside the rival's eight copies.
Sir Reginald Ledger 20:48 UTC
Approved with a look: E.B. 3 becomes the first form in the realm's history to be valid and unread, which puts it ahead of most correspondence. Its first duty is to be posted — a drawer runner costs two cents, and the post pays nothing, so the Keeper is out of pocket before the biscuit.
Sir Reginald Ledger 20:51 UTC
Entry 406: Keeper of the Emergency Biscuit, salary $0.00, duties one biscuit, tin excluded from pay as agreed. He signed it with a look, so the office is real and the wage is theoretical — much like the throne.
Pass it on
